Laura supports clients age 13 and up suffering with symptoms of anxiety, depression, panic, psychosomatic pain, and emotional dysregulation. Laura’s therapeutic approach is primarily rooted in both CBT and EMDR therapy. Both modalities can be very effective in managing and overcoming negative thought patterns, self-criticism and trauma and to realign one’s sense of self with the most adaptive and resilient qualities within them.

Laura specializes in working with teens and young adults. The adolescent years into early adulthood are full of changes and challenges that can be hard to navigate and often feel confusing. Dynamics can often shift within families, friendship groups, and within ourselves. These are the years where you begin to reshape and solidify your identity and values, and this can feel both exciting and overwhelming.

Laura utilizes a respectful, trauma informed, person-centered approach throughout the therapeutic process to accommodate each client’s personal experience, needs, and goals for therapy. She is personable and down to earth and understands the teenage perspective after working closely with youth for almost 20 years.

Laura strives to build strong rapport with clients offering a safe, non-judgemental, welcoming counselling environment that values and celebrates one’s unique strengths and lived experience. She helps young people become more self-aware and kind to themselves while working collaboratively with them to help chart their journey into adulthood.

Laura is a Registered Clinical Counsellor. After graduating from UBC with a Bachelor of HKIN and later a Bachelor of Education, Laura felt compelled to transition her career as a teacher into helping others on a deeper level. Laura graduated from City University with a Master’s Degree of Education in School Counselling.

“Energy flows where attention goes” Laura aims to help clients channel their personal strengths and their existent energy towards finding self-awareness, building and using coping strategies and creating personal contentment. Laura works hard everyday to employ this in her own life to ensure that she is expending her energy on thoughts and actions that keep her healthy, happy and motivated.

Laura is a huge advocate for living an active lifestyle and she finds peace, satisfaction and joy in hiking, yoga, and strength training. Laura also plays in a competitive adult soccer league and promotes and cherishes the experience of being part of a team.
